Joshua Rubenstein, national head of the Trusts and Estates practice, will present “Estate Planning for Unmarried Couples: Detriment or Opportunity?” at 4:25 p.m. on Monday, November 4. This session will examine the many basic estate-planning techniques that are unavailable to unmarried couples—whether opposite-sex couples who decline to marry, or same-sex couples who are unable to marry or to have their marriage recognized—particularly in light of the recent landmark US Supreme Court decisions in Windsor and Perry. Josh will also address where such couples are discriminated against, how such discrimination can be mitigated and where special planning opportunities exist.
